Why We Finally Trashed Our Old Plastic Tubs

Let’s be honest: we’ve all got that one kitchen cabinet of shame. You know the one full of mismatched plastic containers, half of them stained permanent orange from last year’s spaghetti sauce, and most of them missing lids. It’s a chaotic mess, and frankly, microwaving food in old plastic just doesn't feel right anymore.

When we started AuraCook in Jackson Center, PA, we decided to move away from the "disposable kitchen" culture. We became obsessed with materials that actually respect the food you cook: Borosilicate glass and Ceramic coatings.

The "Why": It’s About Porosity

Why does plastic smell like last week's curry forever? Because at a microscopic level, plastic is porous. It absorbs oils and odors like a sponge. Glass and high-quality ceramic are non-porous. They rinse clean. Period.

Switching isn't just about making your fridge look "Instagram-worthy" (though it definitely helps); it’s about investing in tools that you don't have to throw away every six months.

The Method: How to Actually Make the Switch without Going Broke

You don't need to overhaul your entire kitchen in one weekend. That’s expensive and overwhelming. Here is the realistic method we recommend to our customers:

  1. The "Toss" Audit: This weekend, open that cabinet. Match every base to a lid. If a piece is cracked, warped from the dishwasher, or hopelessly stained, recycle it immediately. Be ruthless.

  2. Start with High-Traffic Sizes: Don't buy a 20-piece set yet. Buy two or three high-quality AuraCook glass containers in the sizes you use most for leftovers (usually the medium rectangle ones).

  3. The Oven Test: The biggest game-changer is realizing you can bake pasta directly in our Borosilicate containers, serve it at the table, put the lid on, and store it in the fridge. That’s one dish to wash instead of three. Once you experience that convenience, you won't go back to plastic.
